Raymond Hermann Carrie

March 2, 1925 - May 8, 2012

Raymond Hermann Carrie of Cadillac, born March 2, 1925 in Andernach, Germany to German mother, Louise Schneider Carrie and American father, Raymond Richard Carrie, passed away May 8, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He was 87. He met his future wife, Hanna Milles in Andernach and they were married in 1950 and were married for 25 years. They immigrated to the United States and raised four children together. Mr. Carrie worked for 33 years at WWTV 9 & 10 in Cadillac as an accountant and office manager. For forty plus years he co-owned and operated the family business, World Wide Travel Agency, and offered the excitement of world travel to many people on his personally escorted tours. He was also a fine tenor who sang for many special occasions in the area as well as violinist for the Cadillac Symphony Orchestra for over thirty years. Mr. Carrie was an early environmentalist and with the help of Tom Olmstead and the support of the Exchange Club planted many of the trees that still stand around Lake Cadillac today. His love of the outdoors, especially sailing and skiing was passed on to his family. His passion for fine food and cooking made him a gourmet extraordinaire. He had an insatiable appetite for exploring the world. His zest for life was unparalleled and will always be remembered. He is survived by his four children: Linda Borish (Arnold) of Devon, PA, Raymond E. Carrie (Linda) of Kalamazoo, Mary Ann Carrie of Traverse City, and Carrie Christine Schuett of Watertown, WI, as well as 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren who he was lovingly known to as “Opa†to. He was preceded in death by his longtime friend and travel companion, Inez Rogers, of Evart. A celebration on his life will be held at his home, 205 East Mason Street, Cadillac, Thursday, May 10th from 3 to 6pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Cadillac Symphony Orchestra. Arrangements were made by Peterson Funeral Home. An online guestbook is available at www.petersonfh.com.
