Robert Carlton Dore Sr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

MCBAIN - Robert Carlton Dore Sr., of McBain, died Friday morning, Nov. 11, 2011, at Pine River Health Care in St. Louis, Mich. He was 87. He was born on Jan. 1, 1924, in Port Huron to Franklin and Nettie (Patnode) Dore, and they preceded him in death. Mr. Dore served in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Dore had farmed before moving to the McBain area in 1966, and since that time, he was employed at J.D. Aten Trucking and retired in 1986. He enjoyed reading, puzzles, and traveling. On Nov. 7, 1944, in Port Huron, he married the former Rhea Clark, and she survives him along with their children, Robert (Sandy) Dore Jr. of Cadillac, Tim (Ramona) Dore of Manton, Mark Dore, Patrick (Barb) Dore of Marion, Scott (Heather) Dore of Portland, Greg Dore of Lake City, Loretta Ellwood of Davison, Karen Lazell of Cadillac, Julie Bonham of McBain, Cindy (Bob) Vennema of McBain, and Rebecca (Rick) Velfling of Cheboygan; 26 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Eileen Grondin, and two son-in-laws, Dennis Ellwood and Steve Bonham. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 14, 2011, at the Highland Christian Reformed Church, with the Rev. Nate Walker officiating. Burial with full military rites under the auspices of the Cadillac Area Honor Guard will be at the Highland Hillside Cemetery in Osceola County. Friends may meet the family from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011, at the Burkholder Funeral Home in McBain. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice.
