Robert Schut Schut

October 17, 1927 - January 14, 2013

Robert Schut of Cadillac passed away Monday, January 14, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Cadillac. He was 85. He was born on October 17, 1927 in McBain to Claus & Hattie (Yonkman) Schut and they preceded him in death. On August 4, 1950 Bob married the former Dorothy Nystrom and she preceded him in death on June 1, 1975. Bob graduated from McBain High School and later served in the United States Army during World War II. Bob had been employed at Milliken\'s in Cadillac for 26 years and retired 20 years ago. He was a member of the Church of Discovery (Nazarene) and was a loyal Detroit Tiger and Chicago Cubs fan and one of his highlights was going to Wrigley Field to see the Cubs play the Tigers. Bob also enjoyed walking. On October 18, 1980 in Cadillac Bob married the former Virginia A. VanHaitsma and she survives him along with his children: Michael Schut of Indianapolis, IN, Barbara (Bill) VanSteenis of Holland, Dolores (Dan) Holmquist of Lansing, Timothy (Angela) Schut of Holland; step-children: Cheryl Rollo of Cadillac, Diane (Ron) Rhoton of Florida, Bonnie Morris of Tustin, Jo Jepson of Texas, Terry (Sheila) Langworthy of Sand Lake, Jerry (Kathleen) Langworthy of Ashton, Sheila (Rex) VanderVlught of Cadillac, and Shelley (Todd) Brown of Ohio; 25 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; 2 brothers: Elwood (Carol) Schut of Lucas and Tom (Beverly) Schut of Jenison; a sister, Mary LaChonce of Lucas; sister-in-law, Pauline Schut many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and first wife he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Schut, a son, Terry Schut; a granddaughter, Barbara Ann and a brother in law Dan LaChance. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, January 17, 2013 at the Peterson Funeral Home in Cadillac with Reverend Brian McConnell officiating. Burial will be at Lucas Cemetery in Missaukee County. Friends may meet the family from 6-8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
