Theresa G. "Tress" DeRuiter Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Theresa G. "TressÃ¢â‚¬Â DeRuiter of Lake City went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Belle Oakes Living Center in Lake City. She was 84. She was born August 16, 1929 in Grand Rapids to John L. and Jeanette A. (Faber) Stuyfzand. On June 23, 1950 in Grand Rapids she married Corwin DeRuiter and he preceded her in death on September 9, 2000. Tress had been employed at Foster Brothers, in the office for many years. She also had a milk route for Swartwood Dairy. Tress was a longtime member of the Cadillac Christian Reformed Church and had been active in the Golden Hour. She enjoyed going for rides and trips with other couples as well as playing the accordion. Tress touched many lives with her positive attitude and happy smile throughout any difficult time. She always put others before herself; she enjoyed knitting hats and scarves for Project Christmas and baking banket for her friends. She loved to watch the Detroit Tigers, tennis as well as college basketball. She is survived by her sons, Bruce (Joey) DeRuiter of Lake City and Greg DeRuiter (Lynn Moore) of East Lansing; grandchildren: Jennifer (Jim) Settergren, Leah (Jason) Campbell, Daniel DeRuiter and David DeRuiter; great grandchildren: Courteney, Claire, Lilly, Jack, Emelia and Will; a brother, John (Char) Stuyfzand; a sister, Gert (Howard) Johnston and in laws: Jane Keim, Norma (Don) VanderWerf, Arlene Mains, Esther DeRuiter and Jeanette DeRuiter. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents and step mother, Ann. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 9, 2014 at the Cadillac Christian Reformed Church with Reverend Ken Nydam officiating. Friends may meet the family Saturday from 4-7 at the Peterson Funeral Home in Cadillac. Burial will take place at Maple Hill Cemetery in Cadillac.
