Vernon Clayton Taylor, of McBain, went home to be with the Lord on April 8, 2012 at the Curry House in Cadillac. He was 75. He was born on Sept. 30, 1936 in Richland Township, Missaukee County to Clayton and Katie (Elenbaas) Taylor. He married Pearl Ilene Hiller on June 19, 1959 at the First Presbyterian Church in McBain. He graduated from the McBain Public High School and had done farm work during his working years. His family was the joy of his life and was a devoted family man in the true meaning of the word. He was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church at McBain, where he had served as an elder, taught Sunday School and was the church treasurer for many years. His other passion was sports of all kinds. At the top of the list were the Tigers and he was an avid fan his whole life. He also enjoyed the Rambler basketball and football games, along with his buddy Claude Marcus â€" they missed few games over the years. He enjoyed going for coffee with his friends at the restaurant and enjoyed their company. He is survived by his wife, Pearl I. Taylor of McBain; daughters, Kim Taylor of Indian Head, Il., Tamara Taylor of Columbus, Ind., and Bridget Taylor of Cadillac; grandchildren, Katie Dozier and Sarah Dozier of Indianapolis, Ind., and Andrew Stralow of McBain; siblings, Catherine Schepers, Marge (Ivan) Quist, Jim (Hankie) Taylor, Bob Taylor and Jerry (Louise) Taylor all of McBain; in-laws, Betty Taylor of McBain, Bob (Carol) Hiller of Grandville, Rebecca Okoren of Cadillac, and Pat Hiller of Grand Rapids; special nephew, Bill Taylor of Cadillac. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Lawrence Taylor, Sharon Taylor, and Mae (Al) Pluger; in-laws, Ray Schepers, Yvonne â€œBonnieâ€ Taylor, Art Hiller, and Victor Okoren. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday April 11 at the First Presbyterian Church in McBain with the Rev. Brian Taylor officiating. Burial will be in the Mount View Cemetery in McBain. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. at the Burkholder Funeral Home in McBain Memorial tributes may be made to Mercy Hospice of Cadillac or the Aviary Fund at the Curry House in Cadillac.
