Virginia Mae Prehn Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

MCBAIN - Virginia Mae Prehn, of McBain, died Tuesday morning, Nov. 22, 2011. Our cherished wife and mother crossed over to rest safely in the arms of her Lord and Savior. She was 86. She was born on July 7, 1925, in Cadillac, to Russell and Virgia (Tussing) Marks. She married Eugene Prehn on March 1, 1947, in McBain at the Marks family home. Virginia graduated from McBain and Butterworth School of Nursing in June of 1946 as a registered nurse. She worked for Dr. Tornberg and as a critical care nurse at Cadillac Mercy Hospital. First and foremost, she was a devoted wife and mother. She was a longtime active member of the McBain Presbyterian Church and the McBain Women\'s Club. She served as first secretary of the Missaukee County United Way. The family gratefully acknowledges the exceptional care of Mercy Hospice. She is survived by husband Eugene Prehn of McBain; children, Gail Washington of Grandville, Beth Bowers of McBain, and James Prehn of McBain; a sister, Joyce Heckler of Grand Haven; a sister-in-law, Marion Benzing of Battle Creek; four granddaughters, Christene (Aaron) Altman of Grandville, Melissa (Mike) Abbott of McBain, Melinda Markham of Cadillac, and Cara Washington of Grandville; seven great-grandchildren, Brooke, Jordan, Payton, Stephen, Kaylynn, Austin and Caleb. She was preceded in death by sister, Dorothy and Victor Huey; son-in-law, Booker Washington; and brother-in-law, Ron Heckler. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the McBain Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. David Weber officiating. Burial will be at Mount View Cemetery in McBain with visitation from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday at the Burkholder Funderal Home in McBain.
