Ivan D. Robertson

Ivan D. Robertson of Cadillac passed away Saturday, May 16, 2015 at his home. He was 75. He was born on November 5, 1939 in Cadillac to Russell & Marguerite (Meyers) Robertson and they preceded him in death. On October 3, 1964 he married the former Judith Fredric Johnson and enjoyed 36 years of marriage prior to her passing away in 2000. Ivan graduated from Luther High School in 1958 and shortly after high school joined the United States Army and served for over 20 years retiring in 1979 and having received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Ivan then went to work for Coca Cola and had served for 20 years there in many capacities retiring in 2002. Mr. Robertson was an active member of the AMVETS Post 120, American Legion Post 94, Cadillac Elks Lodge, Cadillac Moose Lodge, VFW, DAV, Korean War Veterans and the Cadillac Area Honor Guard. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, NASCAR, gardening, fishing in the U.P., spending his winters in Alabama, and traveling having been in every European country. On April 23, 2004 he married the former Glenda Sue Stewart and she survives him along with his children: Russell J. Robertson & FiancÃƒÂ© Brenda Besey of Dumfries, VA and Mechelle & Chuck Helmka of Cadillac; grandchildren: Charles Helmka, Jr., Michael (Jennifer) Helmka, Kevin Besey, Karin Besey; great grandchildren: Colby Helmka, CJ Cerrella, and Avery Faith Helmka; his siblings: Kenneth Robertson of Bangor, PA, Joan Gleason of Sacramento, CA and Andy (Barb) Robertson of Baldwin; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Kevin (Carla) Moffit; special pet, Tippy. In addition to his parents and first wife he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Lora Robertson; sister & brother-in-law, Jean & Sam Sapp; a sister-in-law, Louise Robertson; brother-in-law, Glenn Gleason; In-laws, Chet & Maxine Johnson and 3 pets: Smokey, Cameron and Hooter. Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, May 21, 2015 at the Peterson Funeral Home in Cadillac with Pastor Jim Helmboldt officiating. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Cadillac with full military rites under the auspices of the Cadillac Area Honor Guard. Friends may meet the family from 4-7 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
