Maria Christine Toupin

Maria Christine Toupin of Boon passed away Monday morning, January 15, 2018 at Curry House Assisted Living in Cadillac. She was 86. Maria was born April 28, 1931 in Mettenheim, Kr. Worms, West Germany to Karl and Elisabeth (Lehmann) Aulfinger. She worked at a green house and trained as a model in Germany. Her love of gardening continued through her life with her flower beds and vegetable gardens. Maria was the 1996 recipient of the OASIS Celebrate Women award. Mrs. Toupin had served on the Henderson Township Elections since 1977 and was a Henderson Township Trustee since 1996. Maria was a member of the Cadillac Women's Club and had served as president and was on the food booth committee for the Cadillac Area Arts Festival through the club. She had also spent time volunteering with the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary and was responsible for the book cart and spent time volunteering with the infant ministry. Maria was a pastry chef at McGuire's in Cadillac but was always busy taking care of her husband, Hubert and their five children. Maria was a very active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Cadillac where she was part of the L.W.M.L. , Ladies Aid President, choir and Sauerkraut Supers and Lenten Suppers. On August 25, 1951 she married Hubert L. Toupin in Germany and he survives her along with their children: Gregory (Corrine) Toupin, Denise Weston, Suzanne (Dion) Shurbet all of Boon and Kevin Toupin of Cadillac; grandchildren: Lisa (John) Herron, Christopher (Ashley) Weston, Kyle Weston, Matisan Vanderhoef; great-grandchildren, Cheyanne and Ciarra Herron; two brothers in Germany and a sister in Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Steven Toupin in 2011and two brothers and a sister. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday January 19, 2018 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Cadillac with Reverend Joel Hess officiating. Friends may meet the family Thursday from 4-7 PM at the Peterson Funeral and Cremation Services in Cadillac. Burial will take place at Bankers Cemetery in Hoxeyville.
