MaryLou Devereaux

MaryLou Devereaux, 83, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at her home in Cadillac. MaryLou was born June 22, 1933, in Scotts, Michigan, to Lucius and Marian (Robinson) Skidmore; both preceded her in death. She graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1951. On February 16, 1952, she married Richard E. Devereaux, in Battle Creek, who preceded her in death on September 19, 1989. They enjoyed 37 years of marriage together before Dick passed away unexpectedly on his 59th birthday. MaryLou was a wonderful stay at home mom of six children and a homemaker. She was a devoted mother and wife who poured her love and energy into her husband and children. She sacrificed daily for her family. She volunteered in the lunchroom and library at St. Ann\'s School during her children\'s school years. She enjoyed being a homeroom mom and baked many goodies for their classroom parties. Dick and MaryLou made many enjoyable memories from their family camping trips. After her children were grown, she worked at H. L. Green's snack bar, and then Oleson\'s bakery for 14 years. She was a long time member of St. Ann\'s Church, and an active member of St. Michael\'s Circle. She was actively involved at First Baptist Church of Cadillac for the past 25 years. She served in the nursery; and on the WOW (Women of Worth) Board. She loved going on the annual women\'s retreat and shopping trips with her daughters and friends. Her faith was a priority in her life. She hosted a weekly Bible study in her home for many years which many women enjoyed attending. MaryLou was a kind, thoughtful wife, mother, and friend. She loved sending cards and notes of encouragement to others. She had a gentle, joyful, positive spirit which came from her relationship with Jesus. She saw the good in everyone and was a beautiful role model. She is survived by her six children: Daughters: Shari (Gary) Bednarick of Manton; Leisa (Neal) Laybourne of Barre, VT; Lori (Delos) Loomis of Muskegon; Amy Finstrom of Cadillac; Sons: Brian (Carolyn) Devereaux of Plainwell; Alan Devereaux of Cadillac; 18 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; siblings: Norm (Lynette) Skidmore of FL; Ron (Dolly) Skidmore of Battle Creek; preceded in death by Jerry (Amy) Skidmore. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, March 10, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Cadillac with Pastors Dave McMahon and Neal Laybourne officiating. Burial will be at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Cadillac. Visitation will be held at 10 am before the service at First Baptist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to The Alzheimer's Foundation.
