Sherwin John "Chic" Broersma

Reverend Sherwin John “Chic” Broersma, age 88, passed away Monday April 21, 2025 at home. He was born and raised in Vriesland, Michigan on February 12, 1937 to John and Trena (Kruis) Broersma who preceded him in death. Chic graduated from Zeeland High School in 1955 and Western Michigan University in 1960. Rev. Broersma received his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry in Wisdom Literature in 1987 from Western Theological Seminary in Holland, Michigan. Chic also served in the Michigan National Guard. Rev. Broersma served congregations in Illinois, Florida, and New York and as campus minister at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan. He was the regional pastor, coordinator for Reformed Church in American campus ministries at the University of Michigan, Ferris University, Western Michigan University and Grand Valley State University from 1999 to 2004. Over the years Rev. Broersma published numerous magazine articles and was a regular contributor to Words of Hope devotional. He was a frequent guest pastor at Cadillac area churches and was a board member of Workplace Chaplains for over 10 years. He was a voluntary director at North Shore Condominiums and member of Cadillac Area Stroke Support Group. He enjoyed traveling, reading, writing and photography. Chic found the greatest joy in his marriage, children and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by his wife of almost 65 years, Nancy Anne (Rickert) Broersma; their children: Steven (Sallie) Broersma and Susan (Jim) Reilly; grandchildren: Zebulon Broersma, Abbigayle Broersma, Amanda (Spencer) Quist, Isaac Broersma, Margaret “Maggie” Reilly; siblings, Grace Closius and Richard (Joan) Broersma. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by their daughter, Amy Brown; sister, Marilyn Jordan and Alyce Brower. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, April 28, 2025 at Cadillac Christian Reformed Church in Cadillac with Rev. Ron Klimp officiating. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Maple Hill Cemetery in Cadillac.
