Timothy Charles Nelson, MD

Timothy Charles Nelson, MD of Cadillac passed away unexpectedly, Thursday, August 18, 2016. He was 56. Tim was born December 13, 1959 in Elmhurst, Illinois to Robert D. and Barbara Jean (Bundy) Nelson. He graduated from Norway High School in the Upper Peninsula in 1978. Tim earned his undergrad degree from Michigan Technological University in 1982. He attended graduate school at Michigan State University from 1987 until 1991. He then spent five years, from 1991 to 1996 at Marshfield Clinic in Wisconsin completing his surgical residency. After completing his residency he returned to Michigan to the Keweenaw Medical Center in Calumet and also taught medical students at the Michigan State University, Upper Peninsula Campus. His medical career then took him to Gaffney, South Carolina for ten years while he worked at Novant Medical Center. Tim had most recently moved to Cadillac and was currently working at Munson Healthcare Cadillac Hospital. He loved engineering and restoring cars especially 1932 Fords. Tim also enjoyed trap shooting, hunting and fishing. Above all he cherished his family and was a devoted father and husband. On May 24, 1980 in Iron Mountain, Michigan he married the former Jackie E. Via and she survives him along with their children: Amber (Ira) Saunders of Fort Myers, Florida, Angela (Brandon) Alex of Omaha, Nebraska and Adam (Brittany) Nelson of Fort Campbell, Kentucky (who is to be deployed to Iraq by the end of the month. Tim was extremely proud of Adam's service to our county); two grandchildren, Grant Saunders and Liam Alex; his father, Robert (Lois) Nelson of Three Lakes, Wisconsin; his mother, Barbara J. Sitter of Cadillac; niece, Kristin Nelson Graham of Hermasnville; mother Ã¢â‚¬â€œin-law, Sheila Via of Iron Mountain; sister-in-law, Lesley Querio of Iron Mountain; step brothers, Cary (Jonna) Dalaskey and Clarence Sitter, III; step sisters: Kathy (Kevin) Kinser, Vonnie (Alan) Fejef and Sherry (Pat) Raidy and many nieces and nephews. Tim was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas J. Nelson on November 15, 1986. Funeral services will be held 1:30 PM, Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Peterson Funeral and Cremation Services in Cadillac with Hospital Chaplain, Pastor Steve Boven officiating. Friends may meet the family Monday from 5-7 PM at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Norway Township Cemetery in Norway, Michigan.
