Our History

Our History

Peterson Funeral Home originally served as the home for William Mitchell, one of the most prestigious lumber barons and businessmen of Cadillac, Michigan. The building was built in 1890 and served as a home for the Mitchell family until 1947 when it was converted to a funeral home by the Peterson family.

Elmer and Jenny Peterson began a funeral home across the street from the current location in 1932. They purchased the building from the Mitchells in 1947, the William Mitchell house has served as a funeral home at the present location since the purchase. In 1950 Robert and Delores Walsh purchased the funeral home from the Peterson's and assumed ownership for 38 years. Ross and Teri Meyering purchased the funeral home from the Walsh's in 1988.

The Peterson family began a respected funeral business 78 years ago and started a tradition and commitment to excellence in service that the Meyering family is proud to continue today. Peterson Funeral Home offers information concerning pre- planning and arrangements that will be most appropriate for you and your family, whether that may involve traditional burial or cremation.

We are people who know you, people you can rely on today and tomorrow, serving with integrity, sympathy, and efficiency.
